The moon had barely risen, but there was at least enough light from the landing beyond to see where he was going, for the ever-descending gloom in the room was stifled only by the soft, virtually non-existent glow of the bedside candlelight that was probing to create a terribly provocative atmosphere between himself and his soon-to-be present...wife... who had yet to present herself while he had done little more than venture a few steps from the ornately carved door frame.
Gilbert frowned, his inner thoughts reeling at the mere glance over his shoulder as his gaze wandered numbly throughout the bedroom. Their bedroom. And as satisfying as it would be to storm off into the dark, it would also be self-destructive. Besides, Gilbert had been too physically and mentally drained at the mere sight of the large four-poster bed to go anywhere, he noted to himself as he only hesitantly acknowledged the sickeningly sweet rose, its vibrancy contrasting with that of the whitewashed silks and cottons of the mountain of pillows it had been so carefully propped up upon; a subtle reminder of the night to come. And he almost physically cringed at the thought, a sharp chill running the length of his spine in its stead.
He couldn't do this. Not with her, not with anyone. Hell, he'd barely had so much of a chance as to have a particularly long conversation with her, and yet earlier that very same day he had been guided through a string of events that he had been far too beyond the initial feelings of shock and utter disorientation to initially process, and almost suddenly he was to spend the entirety of his life with her, as had been demanded of him.
As he stood, crimson hues glazed over almost unseeingly, frozen in place, in his nightware, by the sheer... he couldn't even begin to know what...perhaps, prospect of what he, as the great Prussian nation, as a-- a newly-wed, was expected to do. And he couldn't. Wouldn't. And Gilbert was...sure? that it was a task he could not carry out, regardless of the consequences of his failure to comply.
But at least she was beautiful...right? Perhaps even intelligent; he didn't know. She had seemed as such, however as had many upon initial encounters. But beautiful would not be so bad. At least she wouldn't pain his eyes and he would not risk touching something awful and ready to pop when constrained to the same bed. At least she was not so large as to take up all the space in it. And he would even have someone to keep the house in order for him, or to care for Ludwig when he could not, despite the kid being fully capable of sorting himself out... Perhaps this wouldn't be so bad, after all.

Post by Aloisia "Brandenburg" Nacht on Dec 9, 2012 17:27:32 GMT -5
Aloisia really hadn't wanted to do this, she was still young after all, marriage hadn't ever crossed her mind. Since the eighth century it had been her and her little sister, and Lulu felt she had been doing well enough. So she owed the Ottonian German for helping kick those nasty Slavs out of her region in the twelfth century, and the Catholic Church had helped to keep the people safe with the way they would build walls around towns. Brandenburg had done very well on its own, expanding trade lines along the rivers and generally keeping out of most trouble.
And then they acquired the Duchy of Prussia. She didn't know much about Gilbert himself, always too busy with the trade routes as it was, when she was told of the union to be had of Brandenburg and Prussia, Lulu nearly had a heart attack. They were doing well on their own! Prussia was reckless, heading into fights with that psychotic Hungary, Lu didn't want any part of it, but the royal family were set firmly on it happening. They wanted expansion, they wanted a bigger name, typical wants of humanity Lulu had noticed over the years, but in reality, she wanted it too, it wouldn't be long before someone came knocking on her door for the her prized land, or worse the trade routes and power that came with it that Brandenburg and Berlin had managed to establish.
It was begrudgingly that she agreed to the union, she had no choice though, and she knew it, whether she wanted to be tied to this man or not, it was happening. Marie Eleonore, the dutchess consort as her title officially was, had been the one to act as mother to Aloisia for the old traditions. Lulu had always liked the old woman, kind but unmoving as she was, Marie had sent for designers for the gown, even picked the deep shade of crimson for the fabric. It really was a beautiful dress, heavy and impending as it was, trimmed with lace and fixed with jewels here and there, the heavy embroidered veil was threaded with silver and red and Lulu fancied that she did look beautiful, at she had comfort in that much.
The Hochzeitslader had left a month prior to personally invite the cream de la cream of Prussian society to the wedding, he had come back covered in ribbons and just about dead drunk from all the accepted drinks. Marie had put the bouquet together, and put the small bunch of dill in her right shoe as was the custom, to ensure the marriage got off on the right foot. Lulu really didn't think it was going to be enough, Gilbert was handsome at least, standing at the alter in his full Prussian uniform and the ceremony had gone well enough but it was awkward because they just didn't know each other.
When it was all said and done though, all Lulu wanted was to go to bed. To think her name was now technically Aloisia Beilschmidt, she had spent a portion of the evening just trying to explain that to her little sister, who was to be the new Prussian capital now because of this. The silver haired woman had gladly changed out of the heavy ball dress into a thin white silk chemise, a heavier night robe over it as she walked into her new room and stopped short because her brand new husband was there, why was he in her room? Oh. They had jus been married. This was the wedding night.
"Ahhh.......G-Gilbert," Words were failing her, she hadn't even thought of this part. Aloisia didn't want to do this, she was still a virgin, but......this man was her husband now, "Do.........do ve really have to?" She was sure he would want to, that's the sort of thing men liked to do after all, wasn't it? The young woman had to force her hands to stop shaking as she pulled the cinch to the robe open, showing the thin chemise underneath, attempting to take a deep breath to calm herself and a very deep red blush on her cheeks.
