But the food was amazing, the people were beautiful, she absolutely loved hanging out at the beach and well, DISNEY WORLD, enough said on that. Unfortunately it was a little cold today, and by little it was actually about thirty eight degrees thanks to a sudden cold front that hit the state and Danii was less then pleased, having only packed for warm weather and the only thing she had remotely warm was the bomber jacket she was almost never seen without. Granted it was still rather early in the day and she was hoping that it would get warmer later on so she could go to the beach for a while. Either way, even if it was pretty damn cold and she was trying not to shiver like a chihuahua since all she had were her denim short shorts, cowboy boots, and a white button button up with the bomber jacket on, she couldn't pick a place she wanted to be at more then were she currently was. Kennedy Space Center was such an awesome place! Ever since the space program had been started Danii had found herself completely enthralled with outer space, always wondering what was beyond the stars she was so fond of looking at, and today she was going to be watching a shuttle launch in real life. Now while it wasn't the first time, she definitely never got tired of seeing them blast off into outer space and damn if it didn't make her want to become an astronaut! But the peppy blond didn't think she could actually handle being that far away from Alfred for so long, she was alright with that though, not like you could get ice cream in outer space. Instead Danii was perfectly content to be sitting on Al's shoulders, where she had climbed up on without really asking since it was something she did so much, eating cotton candy and getting ready to watch the space shuttle Challenger launch from the safe distance they were at. Oh it was so exiting! But she had to wonder if it really was ok to launch a shuttle in such cold weather, all the other launches she had been to had always been during warmer days. Still who was she to argue with actual rocket scientists? Resting her chin on the top of his head she offered Al some of her cotton candy, the astronauts had since made their way into the shuttle and now they were just waiting to make sure everything was situated. T minus five minutes, then not long after it was T minus thirty seconds, T minus twenty nine, twenty eight, twenty seven....by the time they were down to ten seconds Danii was enthusiastically counting along, "Five, four, three, two, one, BLAST OFF!" She tossed her arms up, laughing as the shuttle launched itself into the air and leaning so far back she was in danger of falling off the mans shoulders. The glee was probably rolling off her in waves as she watched the shuttle climb higher into the sky, listening to news crews around them and the command center call out some of the statistics. And then there was a loud bang, followed by a flaming cloud of smoke and she was in shock, "Oh my god, A-Al....." The shuttle had just exploded. The Space Race had been a time full of anxiety and paranoia and the full realization of what they were accomplishing hadn’t quite hit Alfred yet. But now the Final Frontier was his for the taking! So what if outer space was meant to be shared? It wasn’t their flag that was on the moon, now was it. Alfred had been quite surprised to find out that the shuttle launch had not been canceled today. No, he sure as hell didn’t know enough to call shots on whether or not space travel was to be carried through, but he had learned that it was a delicate procedure and things had to be perfect. Alfred had also learned that nothing is ever perfect and if something could go wrong, it would, but he wasn’t sure if the weather was enough to get worked up over this morning, his problem at the moment was that he had just zipped his tie up in his jacket. Still fiddling with his tie in his jacket zipper, Alfred was out the door and off to the Kennedy Space Center. Of course he felt somewhat guilty when he went over the speed limit—and by god had he done that before—but the way he figured it, he was a professional at this. Alfred had been driving ever since cars had been invented. He had met up with Danii, wearing his usual ear-to-ear grin and hoisted her up onto his shoulders. He could only imagine who people were reacting to their similarities, even in the way they dressed. With a slight chuckle, he held onto her ankles, bracing himself for the take off. Shielding his eyes from the sun with a free hand and watched as the shuttle took off skyward. ’Just another launch right?’ Alfred’s stomach churned in the way it always did when disaster was lurking around the corner. Holding in his nausea in for a few moments longer, Alfred watched as the shuttle burst into flames. He was silent and unaware of everything else around him. Disaster had become well known, and somewhat expected presence to Alfred, much like that of an old friend. However, disaster was far less welcomed than if he had been inviting the plague into his house. Slowly, he slid Danii off his back, still verbally unresponsive, as his eyes were still locked on the sky. “ S-stay here,” he mumbled to her before turning around and dashing through the crowd. It looked like the large shuttle had just disintegrated and she was positive that no one could have survived that. Danii barely felt it when Al slid her down off his shoulders, being brought back to reality only when her feet made contact with the ground. It still seemed so unreal though, this had never happened before and she just didn't know what to do with herself aside from stand their wide eyed and staring in disbelief as her baby blues misted over with tears. Startled at his words Danii finally managed to pull her eyes away from the smoking wreak that was now falling back to Earth, "Wait Al! What are ya doin? Don-" Too late he was gone. The girl took a few steps as if going to follow him, but he had disappeared into the crowd and even though no one would peg her for the type to actually listen to what she was told, Danii did whatever Al told her. Even if that was to stay where she was even though she wanted very badly to follow along and find out what had happened. For a moment she stood simply stood there, hugging her jacket closer around herself and at a total loss on what to do. The sounds of crying was what pulled her out of her depressed little ravine, she hadn't been the only one to see that after all, and it was definitely downing on the crowd around her just what had happened. Shock laced the faces of the people around here, children had started crying like they instinctively knew that something had gone wrong and she didn't really know what to do, but she had to do something. Danii needed to step up to the plate for these people while Al was off doing whatever it was he was doing, so wiping the tears from her eyes she set to work on quieting the crying children and helping security herd the crowd indoors, trying to keep the shocked panic at a minimum. What a horrible thing to witness, what a terrible thing to happen. Brushing another few tears away when she was sure that no one was looking Danii asked a security guard to go find Al and tell him where she was and to find her when he had an idea on what had happened, or just anything for that matter. Another guard was asked to get a pair of coffee machines and get them going because coffee always helped right? Something had to, anything to just hold on to for these people at the moment.
