However, there comes a time that a small part of her nature strucks her, leaving the female nation at the mercy of her own nature back in the colonial days where she was still under the rule of the Spaniards.
Hence the reason why Philippines, Gabriella Santos, stared in front of her, licking her lips at the sight of food. Oh, her boss won't even know she was gone when she comes back later.
It was one of those (rare) instances where the small (but sturdy) nation decided to shirk her work, opted to spend the rest of the lunch (and afternoon) around the streets, tackling on the food stalls where they sell street foods, and restaurants (from fast foods to fine dining) galore. Well, she only does this when she thinks work is getting too much on her nogging and dealing with her ASEAN bretheren tends to send her over the edge, so might as well spend the rest of the day eating and stuffing herself. Hopefully, it'll replenish her enough to go back on the move in the next day, and probaby face her boss' questioning of where in the world was she at that time.
"I don't think nobody will notice," She murmured before clasping her hands together with a delight on her face. "Ah, what the heck! Oooh! Balut!" And, with that, Gabriella was off, zooming towards a man with a basket, selling some 'Balut'(Fermented Duck Eggs) as she immediately pull out her own wallet and went on a spending spree with food.
It's one of those days...

Unfortunately, it was the much boring latter reason for his visit today. But, as per usual, Francis was generally smiling about the entire affair and was looking forward to making the most of his brief time out in the world. Today, he left his representative’s side (who was prompting him to finish more work, even though that’s all the poor French nation had been doing since his flight had landed) to explore the streets. No doubt, the old man that had been accompanying him would be frantic to find that France had suddenly disappeared.
However, he had done his fair share for the day and didn’t feel the least bit guilty for slipping away. Okay… maybe the tiniest amount surfaced, but it was small enough for the indulgent nation to ignore. Somehow, as he wandered even further, he came into a section that featured mostly food—everything from stalls selling street food to restaurants lining the cityscape. The sights and scents were enough to remind Francis that he had yet to eat anything since his arrival a few short hours ago. The only problem was, he had no clue where to find quality dining. He was careful with what he exposed to his fairly fastidious palate. Hah. England would have rolled his eyes at that. The thought brought a highly amused smile to France’s expression.
Just then, France noticed a very familiar face running after a man carrying a basket filled with… something. He was pretty close to her and only had to take a few more steps forward to hopefully be in her line of vision. ”Gabriella! Ma mie, what are you doing here of all places?” He spoke, a pleasant smile on his face. Who knew that he would run into her in the middle of a random street? Well, this was her home, but still… he hadn’t expected to run into her so soon after his arrival. Oh crap, she thought with a mental facepalm, she forgot about that. The last thing she needed when skirting her work was to meet someone she knows from the conference, a nation no less and...
"F-France!"
Turning around with a sheepish grin, Philippines looked at the personification of France, Francis Bonnefey, as the chance for her to buy those fermented duck egg went to ashes along with her secret skipping of her usual work. Ah well, she thought with a facepalm, they'll make do somehow and if France is here, that means he must be doing the same thing as she does. "What a surprise, I didn't expect to see you here." She gave a sheepish chuckle, scratching the back of her neck at the sight of such a dignified and refine-looking man surrounded with streets filled with grease food, 'dirty' food and some rather questionable ones. "Yeah, judging from your appearance here, boss must have forgot to inform me till last minute about you visiting. Still," She stretched, looking around to see if there is still a chance for her to find a way to eat something cheap, even if it's dirty or somewhat unsanitary. Knowing Philippines, as long as it's food and it doesn't cost her a kidney or two, she's good.
"Oh! I mean... I'm..." The brunette looked at both directions before leaning in towards the blonde nation, as if she's going to tell him a secret. "I'm taking a break from my work. Boss doesn't even know that I'm not where I'm supposed to be." She gave a sharp sigh as she stepped back, facing the man with stern eyes. "But don't tell him or anyone... and certainly don't tell England or Germany about this on the next meeting!" Either way, it was nice that she doesn't have to worry much that she was caught in her dirty, little secret. "So, what brings you here?"

France didn't really see what was so wrong about skirting work every once in a while. He did it all the time! His boss probably didn't like that, though. Ah, well. Relaxing every once in a while promotes better performance. (At least that was Francis's excuse...)
"Yes... well I wasn't really expecting to be here until late yesterday. I am sorry for dropping in so suddenly, but my boss was insistent that we leave as soon as possible." He shrugged a little, though his expression didn't show that he cared much about being rushed over. It was nice to travel no matter the circumstance. "I'm sure our bosses conversed with each other without telling us... It would serve them right, then, that we're taking a much needed break."
France chuckled gently when Gabriella leaned forward as if she were revealing something scandalous, telling him that she was taking a break without permission. "Don't worry, ma belle," he replied, offering her a playful wink. "I won't let anyone know. Your secret is safe with me."
"Truthfully, I'm also here without informing anyone. They're probably all looking for me at the moment..." He sighed, looking very much like he wanted to extend this little excursion. Glancing back when she asked him what he was doing there, he replied. "Well, nothing really. I just wanted to get away for a bit... Come to think of it, actually, I am quite hungry... Would you like to dine with me?" He smiled warmly at her, trying to display one of his most convincing smiles.[/style][STYLE=border:2px solid #494949;background:#efefef;padding:3px;font-size:9px;text-align:center;color:#4c4c4c;margin-top:4px;]time: present tags: gabriella credit: table by greyson of btn notes:XD[/style] |

Waving both arms, Philippines reassured the blonde-haired nation that she also have a fault in there as well, seeing as not only she was uninformed by the sudden arrival but she might have not listened properly to it and even decided to skip her work. Well, it wasn't everyday that they find her doing such a thing, but it was no different with her doing work while going out to get some quick snack here and there. Maybe if she ask one of her attendants about it later, but...
"He's getting a bit irritating, but I'm hanging on." She explained with a mild frown at the thought. "Yeah, but I'm sure the only reason we're needed is because they need to show us the proof that they're not doing something edgy." Or try to blackmail us with something, She added mentally, her frown only deepen before realizing that she's not suppose to think things like work while relaxing and shook the frown away with a smile.
"Oh, that would be lovely!"
She said, clasping her hands together and her mood somewhat lifted at the offer of dining with the country known for elegant cuisine. If there's anything, it's the fact that Gabriella loves food. "There's a district not far from here that offers various restaurants. I haven't eaten in most of them since they're expensive and pretty but I think those are the kinds that you appreciate." She said, pointing to the direction where said district are. "Though I did say they have delicious foods in there. I would go there, but I'm more of a street food kind of a junkie." She paused before groaning a bit, saying something about spending way too much time with America.

France's expression softened at Philippines’s reassurance. Really, he enjoyed her company when she was like this. It can be so tiring when all the nations did was work and negotiate between themselves. It got to be a bit dry, if France had to be completely honest. But then again, France usually tended to think that way about work. ”They’re politicians before anything else, ma belle. They always seem to be doing something insincere or shallow amidst their work. It’s always image first before anything else.” France sounded pleasant enough, even when he was being somewhat insulting towards his boss, but even he had a slightly bitter edge to his tone.
He believed that it was unbecoming of himself to start sounding bitter, no matter how old he was. He didn’t want to start sounding like England now, did he? That nation was always critical over every little political move on behalf of their bosses, though perhaps chose not to be so vocal in front of them. Ah, the life of their kind…
"I’m so glad you think so,” France smiled brightly once more, the gloom passing over. France appreciated being with other nations that had an ample appetite. It was usually a chance for him to please them with his cooking whenever he got the chance. This time, however; he was equally as hungry and would appreciate almost anything at this point.
Francis chuckled a little at Gabriella’s admission to liking street food. ”There’s nothing wrong with that, ma belle. As long as it’s good and not terrible for you, right?” Or excessive, he mentally added, thinking of a certain nation that he considered rather glutinous. Ah, well, he was still a growing nation, he supposed, not wanting to be too critical. (But still being critical, nonetheless.) ”If you prefer staying here, you could show me the types of food that you like to eat?” He grinned, liking the idea more as he thought about it. ”I actually know very little of your street food. Why not give me a small tour of what is offered here?” France wasn’t exactly sure of what he was getting himself into here, but at least he would give Gabriella the option. Either way, he would tag along for the ride. .[/style][STYLE=border:2px solid #494949;background:#efefef;padding:3px;font-size:9px;text-align:center;color:#4c4c4c;margin-top:4px;]time: present tags: gabriella credit: table by greyson of btn notes: sorry that took so long [/style] |

She wasn't sure what is it, but she is aware of it, for one, and the fact that she fully notices it made her more weary than anything else. Seriously, sometimes Prussia can be so fortunate.
Sometimes.
"Well..." She made a smile at the thought, scratching her cheeks as she sheepishly nodded. "I do eat a lot, I guess I got that from Spain and America, to be honest." She can't deny that Antonio and Alfred did something on that part, but she's not entirely regretful about that part of the trait. "I mean, I can't be picky eater though fine dining's also a good call."
Looking around, the brunette nation caught the blonde's statement about not minding eating her, though being a host country it was pretty embarrassing on her part to have a nation such as France to eat to something cheap, if not one filled with grease and has the potential to give someone Hepatitis. Then again, they're nations, the only sickness they get are from the people serving them so it's an iffy situation.
"Don't be ridiculous~"
With a huff of confidence, Gabriella gave a light pat on his shoulders as she laughed a bit at her own thoughts. "You sure about that? You might hate me for returning to your place with a rash or something," She was joking but hopefully it won't go there. "Sure, I could give you a tour or two about the streets." Immediately, she grabbed the older nation by the wrist as she dragged him to one stall that sells barbeques out in the open. Compared to the one from America, this one's particularly small, coal-cooked and skewered in a bamboo stick. Besides it were some assortment foods, some of normal like hotdogs and fishballs but some are a bit bizarre to those weak of stomach; liver cut into cubes, large intestines on a stick, and even chicken feet and pig's ears.
"Two barbeque, please!" The female nation quickly said with much gusto on her tone as the vendor nodded and began cooking the order before she faced her attention to France. "We'll try each and every food in this district, my treat!" She said with a wide grin on her face. On the good side, the fact that Francis allowed her freedom on the food made her a lot more lenient with food. Maybe afterwards, she'll end up in a decent restaurant fit for the likes of France.

"Part of your appetite came from Antonio and Alfred?" Francis chuckled at that. He knew that they each did have their own special kind of impact on the Philippines and it was funny to see some of these characteristics carry through. "But yes, I do understand about not being too choosy with our foods. I have to admit, though, if food is available, some of us can be a bit picky."
France didn't think he'd really mind all that much. He definately wasn't much for Alfred's food, but not all of it was atrocious, he would admit. Admitidly, he was more willing to try new things for the most part. Some of his own cuisine could be a little strange to others as well.
The Frenchman smiled as she laughed. "Of course I am sure. Show me your best things." A breif, filthy thought entered his mind and he couldn't help alluding to it. "If I leave with a rash of any sort, it most certainly won't be from the food, chère."
A spark of anticipation went through him when she confirmed that she would give him a tour about her streets. Before he could reply, she grabbed him and practically dragged the French nation into the nearest stall where a smoky, spicy smell wafted. Francis had tried barbeque before, though never from this country. He pondered if it would taste much different from what he was used to while Gabriella ordered for them. The corner of Francis's mouth curved at the nation's enthusiasm when she told that they woud be trying everything in the district. "Thank you, Gabriella. I would be honored to go on this little venture with you," he said, wondering what other sorts of food this district had to offer.

It was a surprise to new countries or to those who do not know of Philippines well enough about how she acts within the walls of the Conference Hall and outside; At one point, Gabriella is very anal about her job (not as much as England or Germany does, but she's got every reason to) and make sure the schedule is followed or else she will be thrown off the groove, on the other hand she seems quite friendly- silly, even- outside her work station and tends to be pretty much the kind of a female who 'takes it easy'. Fortunately, France seems to know that since she's skirting her work, she doesn't have her usual 'stressful' personality. Hey, if they know Philippines well enough, it's the fact that she doesn't mix work and play together.
Knowing her.
Philippines couldn't help but make an involuntary twitch when France made a comeback about her rash comment, though not sure why. However, that doesn't stop her from gagging before giving France a 'what the hell' look. "Do I want to know?" Even though, her comment wasn't as harsh and tetchy, though it would be if she were still working. Lucky him. "Yeah, I don't want to know." She quickly said, taking a good bite on her barbeque before it gets cold. She didn't mean it, but it's always good for him to hear what she thinks half the time.
"'Course, you do," Philippines said with a smile, taking another bite of her food while she pointed to the one she handed to the blonde nation. "Don't worry, you should eat that. It has this sweet, smokey flavor, not too strong but you'll know." The fact that she's explaining about her own food pretty much makes the brunette happy enough to forget a bit about what she's suppose to do- listen to her boss discuss about the plans, next year's elections and other political whohas that sounded a bit too sketchy even for the nation-personified herself- and the fact that she had brought not two, but six, sticks of an unusual food made her a little bit too happy for normalcy.
Well, she's a food enthusiast, for one, so any nation will immediately know.
"Try this one!" Shoving the stick with some sort of food to France, Gabriella didn't even think twice as she ate hers without question, chewing them before throwing the empty stick on the trash bag before downing the next one. "We call that 'Isaw'. I would go with the Betamax first, but I think you should try that." Just on cue, she could hear the familiar baritone as she perked up and, still biting the almost-finished Isaw on the stick, rushed towards the voice who said the magical word she have been hounding before meeting Francis but not before stopping for a bit and facing the male, index finger raised.
"Oh, and it's pig's intestines, if you're wondering what Isaw is."
After that quick statement did she rushed towards the person with a basket selling Balut and bought two of those before returning back to France, not sure how he took the 'eating pig's intestines' statement... or cared. Ah, he has his own thoughts, let him choose if he'll spit it out or eat it.

France would say that he knew Philippines fairly well, certainly not as well as other nations, but he understood her well-balanced mixture of work and play. He was diligent enough in his own work back at home. Hell, England apparently felt he need to remind him every other day to keep up with the rest of Europe, as apparently he and Germany were the ones currently keeping the rest of the European Union financially afloat. Normally he would have irritated Arthur for his seemingly anal propensities, but this time, his caution was well founded. Beneath his spirited grandiosity, France truly was worried about the economic future of Europe and was doing all that he could to keep all of them from falling into bankruptcy at once.
He tried not to make any sign of amusement when he saw Philippines react to his rash comment. Of course he was going to say something alluding to something indecent. The opportunity was right there and he certainly wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass, now was he? It was fun saying things like that and seeing Gabriella’s reaction. ”Oh, don’t look so shocked, ma mie,” he laughed softly. It was a wonder that anyone was whenever choosing to be in his company. In either case, he liked hearing what Gabriella thought and he loved seeing her reactions.
He smiled back at her when she explained some of the food to him. It was always fun to go on random ventures with another nation… not to mention being an apparent test subject for trying their various types of food. But Francis wasn’t picky. Yes, perhaps his palate of what he considered ‘good food’ was rather fastidious, he was actually very open to trying others foods, no matter how strange they sounded. If people at it without getting (unless it was something truly atrocious), then he would have an open mind about it. Of course… that didn’t mean he wouldn’t be critical about it later. He couldn’t be critical without trying it first, however.
Francis delicately took the stick that she shoved toward him. She was eating through hers like nothing. He looked at his portion for a moment, wondering what in the world ‘Isaw’ was… It mustn’t be anything too bad if everyone else ate things like this. It looked like it had been covered in some sort of sauce. He took a small bit, testing it out, staring at Gabriella as she began to eat another. It wasn’t terrible. Actually, Francis found that he quite liked ‘Isaw’. He wasn’t going to have any more, though, preferring to save his appetite for whatever Gabriella was planning on showing him next.
His mouth fell open just a little when she informed him what Isaw was, but he was quick to shut it. Instead, he just nodded slightly before choosing to finish the rest of what he had on his stick. It’s not like he was averse to eating what other parts of the world would consider inedible. French cuisine often had a couple of ‘strange’ items, such as ox tongue, veal belly, calf pancreas, pigs’ feet, snails, and of course other food items that France occasionally used in his kitchen.
”What else did you buy?” he asked when Gabriella came back from another vendor…

It's a duck egg, with a day-old duck embryo- barely solid but not yet enough to survive outside its shell- and the soupy substance is that of inside a mother's womb. Basically duck fetus. Who in the world would decide to eat something like these? Of course, there are other foods more gruesome than the others, but the people here pretty much had this implication that you haven't fully experienced the Filipino culture until you try out the Balut. It was funny, she thought while having a light chat with the Balut vendor while giving her two eggs and some cashew nuts (luckily, he also seem selling them as well), though the delicacy is famous around South East Asia, people here in Philippines seem to eat it more than the rest of the SEAsia. Anyway, surely, if France can eat snails, then this is just a piece of cake. "Salamat po!" Gabriella said to the vendor with a wave before heading back to the blonde-haired nation, just in time as he asked her a question. "The usual..." The younger nation said, now handling the older male a piece of the egg while she try to crack the shell of hers. "Y'gotta be careful with the beak part, though, don't eat it all in one go or you'll choke on it. " And, indeed, after cracking the top part into a hole large enough for her to fish the embryo out, she began to 'slurp' the liquid content in one go. After finishing off the liquid, she peered to see the undeveloped duckling, pondering it for a second while murmuring loud enough for Francis to hear. "Mmm... guess it's ten days old." She said before cracking the shell further and fishing the duckling out before eating it. Normally, the brunette nation would enjoy watching other nations (or other foreigners not from Asia) who decided to try out such delicacy, mildly laughing in amusement at their reaction while telling them something about what they are eating. She wasn't making fun of them, but it's the fact that it's very hard for her not to find humor at their surprised- if not mildly-disgusted- look on their face though there are some who seem to find the delicacy quite enjoyable after two more tries of it. Since the bones are tender and not yet formed, it was easy to eat- a bit chewy, though, but nothing too much- but what bothers Gabriella from time to time would be the beak. Not that she'll tell anyone about it. "I think we should cut on the street foods for a while," She said after finishing her balut and throwing the shells on the trash can in the corner. "I'm sure there must be some food you might want to try here, France," The female inquired, looking around seeing how the streets are starting to get crowded before looking up a bit and noticing that it's already around noon time. "To be honest, I was surprised you're this compliant about eating them." The young nation stated with a wave of a hand. Maybe it's time for him to choose what else to eat, then probably see if she can spark up a different conversation away from some mildly-grotesque topics about food. Francis stared at the egg that Gabriella handed him. His first thought was that he was holding a hard-boiled egg... but he had a bit of a surprise waiting for him. He paused when she told him to watch the beak and to not eat the entire thing or he would choke on it. The beak? He... wasn't really expecting that. Francis watched how she ate hers and he couldn't help the small shiver of disgust travel up his spine like a fresh bode of baby spiders. He didn't mind most of what she told him about the actual egg, but it was the fact that there was an undeveloped duckling still inside the egg that didn't sit well with him.
Nevertheless, he copied Gabriella and slurped the liquid from a small hole that he had created in the shell. That part didn't bother him--he had done that before in the past with other eggs--though he had been substantially younger then and food had been scarce and eaten quite differently than it currently was. He unenthusiastically broke the rest of the shell and copied Gabriella and slowly, carefully ate the duckling... He hoped to God that he wouldn't get sick from this later in the day... It was the chewiness that was the least appetizing to the French nation. If anything was chewy on his plate, then he probably wouldn't eat it, as that texture was usually a sign that the food hadn't been prepared correctly. But he was a trouper with this street food and finally finished chewing the mass.
He secretly wondered how Gabriella could find balut appealing. While the taste wasn't really all that bad, it was the texture that he didn't like. Francis also threw away his shells after the other threw hers away. A rush of relief went through the Frenchman when she stated that they should lay off the street food for a while. He agreed. Wholeheartedly, in fact. "Perhaps I could finally treat you with a dine-in meal?" he suggested. He wasn't familiar with what this country had to offer, so he was open to her suggestions as well. It was about trying new things, after all. "I can't say that I'll eat balut again..." he admitted with a good-natured smile. "--but at least I had the experience. I can't say that I like or dislike something without trying it first." That's how he felt about any sort of experience, really. Everything should at least be given a chance.
