When I look into all of your stupid faces
I think how fun it will be to pound them into dust
Hair: Dark brown, though he has a tendency to dye it black or midnight blue on random occasions
Height and Weight: 5'6, 123lbs
Other Distinguishing Features:
His trademark stoic features, unreadable and all but expressionless at most times, expect for the occassional somewhat alarming 'smile,' as well as the clothing that he wears, which are always ill-fitting and bulky clothing, which all in all give him a rather queer appearance.
Overall Appearance:
The
[/size][/ul]
Man up or I'll beat you with my peace prize!
-Ivan, to an almost disturbing, stalkerish extent
-Reading
-Watching horror movies
-Being around Adelina, as a general rule
-Having something to do, rather than sitting around, although he will downright refuse to do any form of paperwork, even as an escape from boredom
-Solitude
-Fine art
-Money and wealth, although he will do little to contribute to it
-Simply relaxing in front of a warm fire; to escape the cold from outside
-
-Cars. He seems to have a slight fixation with them in general, namely BMWs, for the simple reason that the oblast is responsible for assembling the bare minimum of said cars, which he for some unknown reason finds great pride in telling others
Dislikes:
-Being reminded of Prussia in any way whatsoever
-Being ignored
-German culture, for multiple reasons
-The supernatural, namely demons, fairies, ghosts, etc.
-Busy places
-Paperwork
-Having to engage in conversations generally, especially with people or on topics that he'd rather avoid
Strengths:
-Overly manipulative of others
-Good with words, despite his unsociable tendencies
-Can easily drown out unnecessary noise. Especially helpful while reading
-Rarely misses a target when throwing
Weaknesses:
-Physically weak
-Tendency to refuse any form of help from others
-Socializing, as a general rule
-Often times will downright refuse to trust others at all, with the two exceptions of Ivan and Adelina, although still he will more often than not doubt her, as he has a habit of suspecting anybody and everybody who happens to cross his path in some way or another
-Any mention of the cursed Prussian or those who are associated with him, in conversation, will often times leave him flustered and annoyed, although his reaction tend to vary greatly depending on the person that he is speaking with a the time, ranging from a fair few threats, despite the fact that he will find himself unable to carry them out the majority of the time, or will simply encourage him to rapidly change the subject or to abruptly end the conversation
Fears:
-Death
-Anybody who he sees as a threat to himself or his capital. To put it simply, anybody who shows any form of interest in either of them at all, albeit an attempt to engage them in polite conversation.
-Russia
Secrets:
-Secretly has the faintest of hopes that he will eventually be acknowledged and accepted by Gilbert, beneath all that hatred and resentment
-At times, despite his 'better judgment,' his lack of social interaction will cause him to feel more isolated than he usually would, causing a certain ounce of depression, and as a result has, only in very recent years, begun to make half-hearted attempts at 'making friends.'
-His many insecurities both regarding both his geographical and social isolation, as well as his unnaturally slim figure, have lead to a deep sense of self-consciousness, despite his many attempts to hide the fact from others, seeing it as a potential basis for ridicule, genuinely believing that others would use his weaknesses to their advantage in order to take him down
-Although he will choose not to show it around certain individuals, namely those who threaten or cause bodily harm to him, he is, when he wishes to be, a charismatic and manipulative character, knowing how to charm and persuade others as he does, having a long period of time during his isolation in which he could 'experiment' on Adelina, before venturing outside of the oblast in order to
Any Quirks/Habits:
-He seems to only suffer from hallucinations when it is convenient for him to do so
-Fidgets when agitated or worried
-Tends to speak as though he is still a young child, mainly out of habit, and appears to retain the vocabulary of a kindergartener the majority of the time, although still manages to prove his vast intelligence to others, when required to
-A reason for his weight, or rather lack thereof, is not only due to his naturally small physique, but also due to his occassional refusal to eat any form of food every now and again, mainly as an overly childish protest against one thing or another, after causing the individual at which the protest is directed at shows a sign of remorse at their actions. When faced with a person who is equally as stubborn as himself he will grow agitated and frustrated that his efforts do nothing to alter their initial thoughts on the matter
-Despite his not-so-obviously strong affections for her, he likes to consider Adelina to be a sister of sorts, albeit one who prefers to avoid him at all cost
Overall Personality:
Often, his most noticeable trait is his incredible naivety, due to the fact that he chooses to iscolate himself from those outside of Russia. Note that naivety does not equate innocence; in his case, nothing could be farther from the truth.
Maybe, once upon a time when he was very young, Alek was a normal child. Indeed, he still has not grown out of many of his somewhat unusual tendencies, even after centuries of being parted from Prussia, who after being all but ignored by and shown little or no signs of affection from, has developed a certain hatred for the man, and as a result managed to develop a general pervasive distrust and auspiciousness of others such that their motives are interpreted as malevolent, due to a growing distrust of his country over a relatively short period of time. As Gilbert at the time was the only male around that he could consider a role model he has managed to transfer this distrust to others, whether they have given him reason to or not.
Although it is true that he prefers to isolate himself and those close to him from others, as he has done successfully for several years, when he is in the company of others he tends to act indifferent to anything that a person may have to say, displaying little or no emotion the majority of the time, no matter the situation, and only seems to fully engage in conversations when they concern the matters of the supernatural, abandonment and a wide range of overly disturbing, morbid topics. One of the many reasons behind this would be that he has suffered from schizophrenia for the majority of his life, as well as mild Paranoid Personality Disorder, as one of the most obvious kinds of impairment caused by schizophrenia involves how a person thinks. The individual can lose much of the ability to rationally evaluate their surroundings and interactions with others. They often believe things that are untrue, and may have difficulty accepting what they see as "true" reality.
Schizophrenia most often includes hallucinations and/or delusions, which reflect distortions in the perception and interpretation of reality. The resulting behaviors may seem bizarre to the casual observer, even though they may be consistent with the schizophrenic's abnormal perceptions and beliefs.
For instance, someone with schizophrenia may act in an extremely paranoid manner -- purchasing multiple locks for their doors, always checking behind them as they walk in public, refusing to talk on the phone. Without context, these behaviors may seem irrational or illogical. But to someone with schizophrenia, these behaviors may reflect a reasonable reaction their false beliefs that others are out to get them or lock them up, and due to this he also has a habit of keeping those he deems close to him, namely Adelina, as close as possible by doing everything in his power to prevent them from leaving his region, believing to the extent of almost extreme paranoia that "outsiders" may feel the desire to exploit or take advantage of either one or both of them in some way or another. He also has a tendency to have recurrent suspicions, without justification, regarding Adelina's fidelity, and as a result often makes moves to punish her in any way that he deems fit, which afterwards would simply add to his grief, however he will often brush his regrets aside with the belief that he acts abusively towards her only when she causes him to, and therefore he cannot be held accountable for his actions.
His perception of love is somewhat confused, and as a result is unable to define the difference between love and lust, and is therefore under the impression that love is more of a physical attraction to another, rather than an emotional one. His methods of displaying his affections, therefore, include on occasion sexual harassment, which stems from an almost overwhelming drive for any form of positive physical response to his actions, and, ultimately, sex.
Alek's overwhelming desire to "keep her in her place" originated from an unconditional and undying love for Adelina, although his methods of displaying his affections are somewhat twisted, claiming that he attempts to hurt her both physically and mentally only when she upsets or angers him by doing something as simple as spending a couple of days out of the region (or country), or deliberately avoiding him, and he will more often than not justify his actions with childish excuses through his own methods of manipulation.
Like any child, Alek expects to get everything he wants, one way or another, and when something upsets him or doesn’t go his way he will, in essence, throw a, shall we say, almost internal tantrum. Basically, his anger falls into three ranges. The first is rather mild, comparatively speaking, and it is characterized by small, but by no means less sinister smiles and blunt accusations that should be denied, if at all possible. This is generally for when he wants to know something. The second range of anger is characterized by dark glares, speaking in a mildly threatening manner, although still managing to maintain the dialect of a young child. These is generally for when he wants someone to stop doing something, but it is usually for small infractions; things he can solve with intimidation alone. The third range is the one you need to watch out for. It’s the one that leads to someone, usually several someones, getting hurt, or even killed. This emerges only after continuous abuses, and reactions will vary widely. Sometimes, he will go deathly calm, or more so than usual, and other times he’ll fly into a rage. Over the centuries, he’s become very paranoid, and he’ll occasionally tip over the edge if pushed to the limit. All in all, Alek's temper is extremely volatile, and it would be best to avoid testing it.

East Prussia
No matter how much Alek may hate to admit it, the region of what is now Kaliningrad Oblast was inhabited during the Middle Ages by tribes of Old Prussians in the western part and Lithuanians in the eastern part by the Pregolya and Alna Rivers. The Teutonic Knights conquered the region and established a monastic state. On the foundations of a destroyed Prussian settlement known as Tvanksta, the Order founded the major city of Königsberg (modern Kaliningrad). Germans and Poles resettled the territory and assimilated the indigenous Old Prussians. The Lithuanian-inhabited areas became known as Lithuania Minor. In 1525, Grand Master Albert of Brandenburg secularized the Prussian branch of the Teutonic Order and established himself as the sovereign of the Duchy of Prussia, the Polish fief, later inherited by the Margravate of Brandenburg. The region was reorganized into the Province of East Prussia within the Kingdom of Prussia in 1773.
East Prussia was an important center of German culture. Many important figures, such as Immanuel Kant and E. T. A. Hoffmann, have their origins in this region. The cities of Kaliningrad Oblast, despite being heavily damaged during World War II and thereafter, still contain some typical German architecture, such as the Jugendstil, showcasing the rich German history and cultural importance of the area. The Lithuanian-speaking community in East Prussia was diminished due to organic Germanization and cultural assimilation; in the early 20th century Lithuanian still made up a majority only in rural parts of the far northeast corner of East Prussia (Memelland and Minor Lithuania), the rest of the area (with exception of the Slavic Masurians in southern East Prussia), being overwhelmingly German-speaking. However, in 1918 Prussians who spoke German joined Lithuanian speaking Prussians and claimed that whole Prussia should join with Lithuania because the majority of inhabitants of this land were of Lithuanian-Prussian ethnic descent. In November 1918 they signed the declaration of independence from Germany and unification with motherland Lithuania.
The Memel Territory (Klaipėda region), formerly part of northeastern East Prussia, was annexed by Lithuania in 1923 after World War I. In 1938, Nazi Germany radically altered about a third of the place names of this area by replacing names of Old Prussian or Lithuanian origin with newly invented German names.
During World War II, Soviet troops reached the border of East Prussia on August 29, 1944. In January 1945, Soviet forces overran all of East Prussia except the area around Königsberg. Many Germans fled west at this time. During the last days of the war, over two million Germans were evacuated by sea. The remaining German population was deported after the war, and the area was repopulated primarily by Russians and, to a lesser extent, Ukrainians and Belarusians.
The Potsdam Agreement among the Allied powers assigned northern East Prussia to the Soviet Union, pending the final determination of territorial questions at the peace settlement:
CITY OF KOENIGSBERG AND THE ADJACENT AREA
The Conference examined a proposal by the Soviet Government that pending the final determination of territorial questions at the peace settlement the section of the western frontier of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics which is adjacent to the Baltic Sea should pass from a point on the eastern shore of the Bay of Gdansk to the east, north of Braunsberg and Goldap, to the meeting point of the frontiers of Lithuania, the Polish Republic and East Prussia. The Conference has agreed in principle to the proposal of the Soviet Government concerning the ultimate transfer to the Soviet Union of the city of Koenigsberg and the area adjacent to it as described above, subject to expert examination of the actual frontier. The President of the United States and the British Prime Minister have declared that they will support the proposal of the Conference at the forthcoming peace settlement.
Kaliningrad Oblast
In 1957, an agreement was signed and later came into force which delimited the boundary between Poland and the Soviet Union,
According to some accounts from the 1950s and 1960s, the Soviet government had planned to make the rest of the area a part of the Lithuanian SSR immediately after World War II.[citation needed] The area was administered by the planning committee of the LSSR, although the area had its own Communist Party committee. However, the leadership of the Lithuanian SSR (especially Antanas Sniečkus) refused to take the territory, mainly because of its devastation during the war. Some modern nationalistic Lithuanian authors say that the reason for the refusal was the Lithuanians' concern to find themselves on equal demographic terms with the Russian population within the Lithuanian SSR. Instead the region was added as an exclave to the Russian SFSR, and since 1946 it has been known as Kaliningrad Oblast. According to some historians, Joseph Stalin created it as an oblast separate from the LSSR because it further enclosed the Baltic states from the West. Names of the cities, towns, rivers, and other geographical objects were changed into newly-created Russian ones.
The collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and the independence of the Baltic states caused Kaliningrad Oblast to be separated from the rest of Russia by other countries instead of other Soviet republics. Some ethnic Germans began to return to the area, such as Volga Germans from other parts of Russia and Kazakhstan, especially after Germany stopped granting free right of return to ethnic Germans from the former Soviet Union. The economic situation has been badly affected by the geographic isolation (and the significant reduction in the size of the Russian military garrison which had previously been one of the major employers), especially when neighboring nations imposed strict border controls when they joined the European Union. Russian proposals for visa-free travel between the EU and Kaliningrad have so far been rejected by the EU. Travel arrangements based on the Facilitated Transit Document (FTD) and Facilitated Rail Transit Document (FRTD) have been made.
In recent times, the situation has begun to change, if slowly. Germany and Lithuania have renewed contact with Kaliningrad Oblast through town twinning and other projects. This has helped to promote interest in the history and the culture of the East Prussian and Lietuvininkai communities.
