Drinking into the wee hours of the morning was a normal thing for Brazil's residents. But this night, the night of September 7th, 2012 , was special, especially to one girl. Gisele had decided to celebrate this night in Rio. She always made a point of celebrating it in a different city every year, and though she had celebrate her birthday in Rio de Janeiro two years prior, the temptation of being so close to the water was too much to pass. She stared out at the ocean, her feet buried deep in the sand, and wondered how things were going in São Paulo. She felt bad, passing up the opportunity to be there, but she wasn't one to compromise on her happiness. She made a mental note to spend Christmas and New Year's in São Paulo this year, to make up for it. She detached her gaze from the water, as group of twenty-something year olds merrily walked by, their arms thrown over each other's shoulders. One of the boys shouted, 'Feliz dia indepence!' and Gisele smiled at him. She felt the excitement bubble up inside her, as the group disappeared in to a bar nearby. Quickly putting her shoes on, Gisele decided it was about time she began her personal celebration. She ran to the side of the street, waiting for the throng of cars to drive by. The esteemed military parade from earlier that day was long forgotten and replaced by crowds of proud Brazilians. Music and cheers filled the air, and Gisele was sure that no one in the city would be sleeping this night. She ran across the street, with half a dozen people, as cars paused in the street to let the partiers go by. She waved at a nearby car, as a thanks then continued on her way. Gisele wasn't quite sure where to begin, she had her favorite local places, but she wanted something new. Then as if the gods answered her prayers, the door of a bar swung open as she walked by it. It made her stop in her tracks. She'd never been there before, it seemed to be fairly new, but it was crowded by a young clientele. Even though it was a lie, Gisele looked around the same age as the patrons there. She smiled again, walking over. If the music outside was loud, this bar was booming. Gisele actually didn't mind it, she wasn't talking to anyone either way, the only thing on her mind was getting a drink. She made a beeline for the bar top, spotting the last remaining seats there. Luckily for her, almost everyone was dancing. She took a seat, catching the eye of the bartender. She was hard to ignore, her shirt was conspicuously low cut, showing off some of her best assets. He asked her what she would be having and her answer was a resounding, "Caipirinha! Easy on the ice, please." The bartender raised his eyebrows at her, "Are you sure you don't want something else? I can recommend cranberry vodka for a sweet girl like you." "Oh, I think a sweet girl like me will be okay with what I ordered," she leaned over, letting her hair cascade over her shoulders, revealing a bit more of her cleavage. "I'm sure I can handle it." With that, the guy didn't say anything else and left with a nod. She kept a sweet smile on her face, her eyes glancing around the bar, though she wasn't sure what she was looking for. Her drink arrived soon enough and she thanked the bartender. "Well, happy birthday to me," Gisele whispered, not wasting another minute before taking her first drink of the night, letting the warmth of the alcohol fill her throat. tag: OPEN / ANYONE words: 641 template by eliza @ shadowplay & shine |
