ANASTASIA (ATHENS) DIMITRIADIS
Faith is for the Transient People
Faith is for the Transient People
I Feel Like We're Summoning The Devil
Nickname/Alias:
- Athens
- Anastasia
- Atty (Just to make herself sound cute)
- Brat (Those who are not aware of her age calls her that)
- 'Old Lady' (If it's not 'Brat', it's 'Old Lady'; only to those who are aware of her age, i.e. Turkey)
Gender: Female
Character Type: Capital
Country or Country of Origin: Greece
Canon or Original: Original

When I look into all of your stupid faces
I think how fun it will be to pound them into dust
Hair: Yellow
Height and Weight: 4'09"; 149 Lbs. (Short but pretty heavy)
Other Distinguishing Features:
Complete personification of Looks can be deceiving and Don't judge a book by its cover[/b]; always seen wearing a yellow hat with two, orb-like shape on each side that looks like eyes, childish in appearance (and personality) but actually older, sturdier and stronger than most.
Overall Appearance:
Athens is oblivious how she manage to throw off the nation's expectations with her appearance. Despite being an old Capital (even at the point of surviving the fall of Ancient Greece), her looks doesn't seem to look like she was old and aging; in fact, with her bright, blonde hair and indigo eyes, she do seem like some new and young capital who appear just this morning. Anastasia, with her short stature, shows herself in an appearance of a pre-teen human being (despite being an old capital), wearing a white, long-sleeve top that reaches past her fingers, a purple-colored top and matching skirt, thigh-high socks and shoes. Her hat, Parthenon, seated itself on top of her head to finish off her attire (she have claimed that she used to have a weirder version of Parthenon but lost it somewhere, so this one is her second hat).

Man up or I'll beat you with my peace prize!
Archeology - She collects old antiques and probably have some of her home modeled after Ancient Greece at some point. Especially the pillars.
Being 'in modern times' - With her appearance, it's no surprise how she mingles so well with the modern nations.
Greece - Ever since she was serving Ancient Greece till Greece rising into a nation, Athens has been there to watch him and guide him. She
Literature - Especially old ones and anything about philosophy. Well, she also like the other books.
Tourists - She enjoys guiding tourists and explaining to them about the rich history of most of the old civilization known as Ancient Greece. It makes Mama Ancient Greece happy... where-ever she is.
Sports - With the Olympics and all, though she doesn't participate most of the time, it seems that she enjoys watching them and cheering on everyone.
Athena - She was named after the Greek goddess, Athena, who is also her patron goddess. So, pretty much, she takes pride on her capital-name.
Antiques - Shown by various antique vases and other old items stowed on her home.
Wine - Especially if it's freshly made and fermented.
Dislikes:
Pollution - Due to over-population back then, Athens became polluted. She worked very hard to make things clean again, she's NOT gonna clean up and get herself dirty with smog again, ya hear?
Over-population - Related with the Pollution part, plus she doesn't want to expand to the point of disappearing without any prior notice.
Past repeating itself - She experienced the downfall of Anceint Greece, the Ottoman empire, the World War, so it's pretty much self-explanatory.
War - Mainly because it's one of the reasons why most of her ancient structures are pretty much being destroyed. Among other things/
Turkey & Iran - Not that she dislikes/hate them, she just feel a tad wary in their presence. Especially since Turkey knows something about her.
Prostitution - Times' changed, so she's trying not to go back on that time. Women have rights now, you know.
Getting drunk - Trust me, you don't want her when she's drunk. Really, you don't want her.
Cleaning up her own messes - Now she won't have any reason to blame anyone for the mess they made!
People calling her 'old' - She likes to believe that she's young (or so what she wanted them to lead on), but mainly because she... just doesn't want to.
Strengths:
Adaptability - Her child-like personality isn't just for show; she actually adapting herself so that she could blend in with the modern society.
Philosophical knowledge - Athens is the home of some of the famous ancient philosophers, so it's no surprise that she, herself, seem to know a thing or two about it.
Knowledge in History - She seem to know her ways with history and is very willing to share it with those who asks her. Especially about the history of Athens, Greece.
Great Actress - She's not Athens for nothing, that's for sure; she's also a good actress and damn proud of it!
Friendly - Along with the aforementioned child-like demeanor of hers, she is also a friendly one who likes to make friends and help with the tourists.
Weaknesses:
Oblivious - Sometimes. Mostly about Greece, but that's just because she's just a tad, too focus on him.
Memory - Since a lot has happened ever since she first came to be, it's not surprising that she'll tend to forget some minor stuff about her own past. Don't ask.
Childish - ...Ok, maybe a little too much childish for her own good.
Being misunderstood - Despite able to mingle with the modern society, she tends to be misunderstood by some for some reason.
The nations finding out that she's actually older than she appears to be - Very much. Very, very much.
Greece - This is not stressed enough. Very much.
Fears:
Loosing Greece - She made a promise to Ancient Greece that she'll watch over her son no matter what. Not only that she
War - Self-explanatory.
Repeat act with the Ottoman/Persian empire - Once is enough.
Pollution - If that happens again....
Loosing the rich culture of Athens - She doesn't want that to happen.
Secrets:
Age -
Persia(Iran) & Ottoman Empire(Turkey) - Nobody knows about it, but she seems quiet and civilized (or, rather, wary) whenever she is within the vicinity of Iran and Turkey. Well... when she's alone, of course. If there are other people (say, Heracles) around, she just act normal.
Secret love of frogs - For little to none reason at all, she have a secret fondness of frogs. Don't ask why.
Philosophical mode - Like Greece, Athens also have a 'philosophical' mode though, unlike the cat-lover nation, she rarely shows it considering how modern society runs in their own philosophy these days. Most of the time, she doesn't show that side, but when she does then you will get the hint that she is pretty much older than she looks.
Greece - It's more like Greece doesn't know that Anastasia used to serve his mother, Ancient Greece, once upon a time. What he do know is that she is serving him and that she 'seems to know her'. She's not gonna tell him about it anytime soon, you know.
Greece Part 2 - Yes. She
Parthenon - She never tells everyone about it but she used to own a hat similar to what she is wearing once upon a time, but then she lost it when she was taken by the Ottoman Empire. Very similar to the present hat she's wearing, really.
Parthenon Part 2 - For some reason, her hat seem to mirror majority of Anastasia's facial reactions, which creeps people out. But it's just some silly rumor running around within the conference hall between nations. Plus, they doubt Anastasia even knows about it or is aware about it.
Getting it down and dirty - When nobody's looking, Anastasia sometimes tend to wear little
Speaking of which... - Rumors running around that Anastasia used to have a very well-developed physique. Unfortunately, many claimed that either it's her mother, or that's pretty impossible. Only Sadiq seems to know the truth about it, asides her.
Neat-freak - Yes. She's a neat-freak. However, she never show to anyone how she deliberately show her hatred to dirt or smog or anything that will physically dirty her place and, if she wanted to, she will go Sparta mode on them if they decide to make a mess in her home. Complete with a mop, disinfectant spray and some sponges. But nobody knows that, right? Right?
Sparta-mode - Do you remember when she said she 'doesn't want to get drunk'? Are you curious as of why she doesn't want to get drunk? Well, here's why; she goes 'Sparta mode' and goes berserk. Don't worry, it won't last long and she'll flop before anyone knows what happened. Coinscidentally, she doesn't remember a thing about her rage-drunk mode when she sobers up. Weird.
Any Quirks/Habits:
Parthenon - Her hat actually has a name. It's Parthenon. As stated, she is unaware that her hat
Cat-lover - Sometimes, she accompanies Heracles and his cats and plays with them.
Playing around - Yes. She plays around, but in a 'childish' way. Sometimes.
Smarter than she appears to be - She looks young, but she's quite smart. She seem to enjoy throwing other nations off from time to time, from the looks of it.
Trekking - From time to time, she wanders around the mountains within her vicinity and just... just wanders around. Enjoying nature doesn't have to have a reason, right?
Fine Arts - From time to time, Athens seem to enjoy making some pottery or writing some stuff just
Sports - She said she doesn't participate most of the time. But if she do participate one, she actually joins.
Learning about History - In her free time, she reads history books written by humans. Sometimes, she reads other nations' history.
Japan (and his prefecture) - She likes Japan and the prefectures/states of his and whenever they come visit Greece, she will openly welcome them. She enjoys her company with Okinawa from time to time too. Sometimes.
Overall Personality:
Rumors running around that Athens is a stingy, old lady who used to serve Ancient Greece once upon a time. A description that might be befitting for a cat-person, one might add, but those are merely rumors and the real Athens is the opposite to what these words were describing her. In fact, it appears that these nations who are making these rumors are thrown off when they first saw how Athens acts around.
Cheerful, friendly, energetic and a bright female, Anastasia is all smiles and eager to learn things within the modern society. She likes to help the tourists with history, making it as brief yet entertaining as possible, as to make their tour around her place very worthwhile. She also enjoys spending time with Greece, oftentimes chatting with him or any nation he's currently with, and also tends to love cats as well (without the ugly, hissy and stingy part, of course). By nature and experience, she is a neat-freak and would do anything to make sure things are as clean as possible, and an artist at heart. The female loves to watch (or participate, if you ask her) sports, enjoys reading books (history or otherwise) and even go as far as throwing off someone whenever she goes in her 'philosophy' mode of hers. Athens is quite open-minded and willing to accept the new things while still honoring the old ones.
Despite her child-like and sunny appearance, it is claimed that she is quite older than her initial personality, and her wiseness can be shown at times. From time to time, she remorse about the tragic event back when she was still serving Ancient Greece and how she was one of the victims in the Ottoman and Persian empire. As such, though she already forgave them, she could never forget what transpires at that lifetime of hers. Her outer, sunny disposition only masks her personality as a worn-out soldier that was neglected as times change, a secretive capital who, to even the nation she serves, cannot tell some of her deepest secrets and a silent & brooding female whenever she recalls her past. She holds a secret and deep liking to the nation though her promise of protecting him from his mother made it harder for her to do her duty that she told Ancient Greece once upon a time when she was still under her rule.
As such, Athens hopes that, one day, things would turn around for the better, always praying and believing as such while, at the same time, showing a cheerful and optimistic front in hopes that her child-like personality make a positive view on her while, at the same time, leaving the sad and tragic past of hers. She cannot forget about it, but she will make sure that whatever effort they did, it will not go to waste.

I'm the hero!
For the complete history of Athens, Greece, pleace refer to Here; not to be confused with the City of Athens
The oldest known human presence in Athens is the Cave of Schist which has been dated to between the 11th and 7th millennium BC. Athens has been continuously inhabited for at least 7000 years.
By 1400 BC the settlement had become an important centre of the Mycenaean civilization and the Acropolis was the site of a major Mycenaean fortress whose remains can be recognised from sections of the characteristic Cyclopean walls. Unlike other Mycenaean centers, such as Mycenae and Pylos, it is not known whether Athens suffered destruction in about 1200 BC, an event often attributed to a Dorian invasion, and the Athenians always maintained that they were "pure" Ionians with no Dorian element. However, Athens, like many other Bronze Age settlements, went into economic decline for around 150 years following this.
Iron Age burials, in the Kerameikos and other locations, are often richly provided for and demonstrate that from 900 BC onwards Athens was one of the leading centers of trade and prosperity in the region. The leading position of Athens may well have resulted from its central location in the Greek world, its secure stronghold on the Acropolis and its access to the sea, which gave it a natural advantage over inland rivals such as Thebes and Sparta.
By the end of Late Antiquity the city experienced decline followed by recovery in the second half of the Middle Byzantine Period (9th–10th centuries AD), and was relatively prosperous during the Crusades, benefiting from Italian trade. In 1458 it was conquered by the Ottoman Empire and entered a long period of decline.
Following the Greek War of Independence, Athens was chosen as the capital of the newly independent Greek state in 1834, largely due to historical and sentimental reasons. At the time it was a town of modest size built around the foot of the Acropolis. The first King of Greece, Otto of Bavaria, commissioned the architects Stamatios Kleanthis and Gustav Schaubert to design a modern city plan fit for the capital of a state.
The first modern city plan consisted of a triangle defined by the Acropolis, the ancient cemetery of Kerameikos and the new palace of the Bavarian king (now housing the Greek Parliament), so as to highlight the continuity between modern and ancient Athens. Neoclassicism, the international style of this epoch, was the architectural style through which Bavarian, French and Greek architects such as Hansen, Klenze, Boulanger or Kaftantzoglou designed the first important public buildings of the new capital. In 1896 Athens hosted the first modern Olympic Games. During the 1920s a number of Greek refugees, expelled from Asia Minor after the Greco-Turkish War (1919-1922), swelled Athens' population; nevertheless it was most particularly following World War II, and from the 1950s and 1960s, that the population of the city exploded, and Athens experienced a gradual expansion in all directions. In the 1980s it became evident that smog from factories and an ever increasing fleet of automobiles, as well as a lack of adequate free space due to congestion, had evolved into the city's most important challenge. A series of anti-pollution measures taken by the city's authorities in the 1990s, combined with a substantial improvement of the city's infrastructure (including the Attiki Odos motorway, the expansion of the Athens Metro, and the new Athens International Airport), considerably alleviated pollution and transformed Athens into a much more functional city. In 2004 Athens hosted the 2004 Summer Olympics with great success.
